"Fold My Design" is a specialized helper object and feature built directly into specific versions of Cinema 4D to streamline the creation of 3D packaging models. It dramatically reduces the work required to transform a 2D stencil—such as a box's dieline created in Adobe Illustrator—into a 3D model. Its primary workflow is based on a few fundamental steps: importing a vector dieline file where each panel is a closed spline, automatically assigning the data to build a 3D model, and then allowing you to preview the fold, define which panel is the base, generate interactive guides, and even animate the entire folding process, which is a major advantage.
Once you have the basics down, you can use the Guides system to take full control. The Guides group lists each foldable panel in the order it will animate. To change the folding sequence, simply drag the panels up or down in the list: the higher a panel is in the group, the faster it will fold. You can also manually control the fold angle for individual panels by selecting a panel in the Guides and adjusting its Rotate value in the "User Data" tab. Finally, add textures to your model, animate the folding process using keyframes, and render out a high-quality product animation.
This is the core logic.
To provide a non-destructive, procedural workflow for folding 2D splines into 3D structures. Target User: Motion Graphics Artists, Broadcast Designers, and Paper Craft enthusiasts. Core Value: Eliminates the tedious manual work of rigging geometry for folding animations.
: Save the file as an Illustrator 8 or Illustrator v9 file, as older vector engines import most reliably as pure splines into Cinema 4D. Step 2: Import and Initialize
